MEET THE C.E.O

Some thoughts by our ceo, mohita indrayan

Creativity for me is a way of life and my first introduction to India’s rich and varied textiles & crafts was when I started accompanying my mother to the state emporiums on Baba Kharak Singh Marg on our bi-annual trips to Delhi. I was very fascinated by the fancy names of the stores like Rajasthali, gurjari, lepakshi, utkalika, Mrygnayani & many more. It became like a project for my 10 year old self to learn about the different states through the products displayed there. The ikats, bandhanis, patolas, balucharis, kanjeevarams, ajrakhs & many more which I often saw my mom wear now had a distinct identity in my mind.

This love for indigenous fabrics got further cemented when I spent my high school years in Jaipur and got exposed to many hand crafted techniques like blockprinting, tie & dye, gotapati, zardozi.

Finally my years at NIFT helped me understand the design process and convert my passion into a profession which gives me an opportunity to spend a large part of the day doing what I enjoy the most…..product development.

In the last 2 decades I have dabbled in many fashion and retail related areas, which included guest faculty roles at premier fashion institutes and Co-founding a National Kidswear brand 612 League with an extensive pan India offline & online presence.

The nationwide lockdown in 2020 prompted me to think what Next??? So as the world started to unlock, I too decided to unlock my creativity and do something which would give me sheer joy. And as they say winter always turns to spring, for me Spring Soul was born with an aim to provide timeless creation for the real women with a distinct stamp of our rich Indian heritage.

Lessonsfrom Mom: How My Mother Shaped My Entrepreneurial Journey

As Mother's Day approaches, it's a time for reflection and appreciation for the women who have influenced our lives the most. For me, that woman is my mother. Growing up in a middle-class household with a father in government service meant that change was a constant in our lives. We moved homes, cities, and even countries every few years, following my father's career. Despite the challenges of constantly adapting to new environments, my mother approached each transition
with enthusiasm and grace.

Her unique ability to turn any house into a warm and welcoming home left a lasting impression on me. But it wasn't just her homemaking skills that influenced me; it was her values and attitudes towards life that have deeply shaped my journey as an entrepreneur.

Here are three key lessons I've learned from my mother which have guided me in building my business, Spring Soul

1. Love for Indian Heritage - One of my mother's greatest passions was her collection of Indian textiles, especially sarees. From a young age, she took me along tostate emporiums, melas, and trade fairs, where I developed a profound appreciation for the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship behind these textiles. This love for Indian heritage is reflected in the ethos of Spring Soul, where we celebrate traditional Indian textiles and craftsmanship in our products.

2. Zero-Waste Design Approach - In our household, wastage of any kind was not acceptable. My mother's resourcefulness and ability to create delicious snacks from leftovers left a lasting impression on me. This mindset of frugality and efficiency has been integral to the way I run Spring Soul. We've adopted a zero-waste design approach, finding innovative ways to repurpose leftover fabrics in our packaging and design process. This not only reduces waste but also adds a unique touch to our products, like our popular fabric jewelry category.

3. Resourcefulness and Adaptability - Growing up, I watched my mother adapt to new homes and environments every few years with ease. Her resilience and ability to quickly adjust to change have been invaluable lessons for me as an entrepreneur. In the fast-paced world of business, being resourceful and adaptable is essential. Whether it's responding to market trends, industry shifts, or customer demands, the lessons I learned from my mother have helped me navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship with confidence.

As I reflect on my journey as an entrepreneur this Mother's Day, I'm filled with gratitude for the woman who has been my greatest teacher and inspiration. My mother's influence extends far beyond the walls of our home; it lives on in every aspect of my life and business. So here's to you, Mom, for your love, wisdom, and unwavering support. Thank you for shaping me into the person and entrepreneur I am today.
